Read/Learn Press anticipates two new books in 2022.
Great reactions to the first volume of ABCs Are Everywhere inspired Book 2. Both books direct children to words all around them. Book 2 will focus mostly on words that name foods children love – and some interesting animals!
Many teachers have expressed interest in a book that covers, in an unbiased way, the subject of guns and gun control. The Story of Guns in America (2021) will update my book on this topic. It will offer an evenhanded introduction to the subject with sections on types of guns, the history of guns in America, gun control laws and cases, victimology, the NRA, and opinion polls.
This is what reviewers said about my original book on guns and gun control:
“Think About Guns in America is a refreshing read. The author appears to know her topic and is quite capable of clear communication. The text is a balanced introductory presentation with sufficient current information to both inform and arm the student (intellectually). It will be useful as background information for students engaged in debate, as well as for those whose task it is to develop critical-thinking skills….There is something in this book to irritate almost anyone who has thought about guns. I recommend it.”
(Bernard H. Levin, Junior High & Young Adult Books, 1992)
“Grades 7-12 Students investigating either side of the gun control issue for papers or debates will find this volume useful. Its straightforward, conversational style will engage YAs as it examines several aspects of the firearms issue.”
(Doris A Fong, School Library Journal, 4.15.92)
“A well-organized book that strikes a nice balance between attracting attention with its approach and treating the topic with appropriate seriousness.”
